Designed to nurture confidence and curiosity, each session helps children strengthen the foundational preliteracy skills. Whether your child is just beginning to recognize letters or is getting ready for kindergarten, this program provides a fun and supportive environment where early literacy skills can grow and thrive.

Overview

Preliteracy Playgroup is designed for children ages 4–6 and focuses on the essential preliteracy skills that support early reading and writing development.

Through theme-based interactive stories, songs, games, crafts, and hands-on learning experiences, the program is designed to make learning fun while fostering confidence, curiosity, and a love of books.

 

Children participating in the playgroup will build foundational reading skills that will also encourage language growth, social interaction, and school readiness in a supportive and nurturing environment.

Preliteracy skills are skills that support reading and writing. These essential skills include:

  • Letter recognition

  • Letter-sound awareness

  • Rhyming

  • Phonological awareness (includes sound identification, manipulation and blending)

  • Listening comprehension

  • Vocabulary development

  • Print awareness

  • Early writing and fine motor skills

  • Storytelling and narrative skills
